Representing FACE at the NADE conference 2010
Three members of the FACE Executive attended this years National Association for Developmental Education (NADE) annual conference which took place recently in Columbus, Ohio, USA. NADE is the sister organisation to FACE in the USA and amongst a number of areas of collaboration every year we have a reciprocal agreement on attending each others annual conference.
John Storan, Mike Hill and Tony Ackland represented FACE this year and for the first time organised a FACE stand in exhibitors hall which proved really popular with the 1200 delegates that attended the conference. Yes, that's right 1200 participants! It really is on a very different scale from our annual conference but everyone is really friendly and very well organised. There was a huge amount of interest in FACE at the stand in our annual conference at Southampton Solent University this year so we may find some NADE members joining us.
Over the years collaboration between the two organisations has developed year on year and one example of this at this year's conference was the excellent news that Mike Hill, FACE Secretary was selected as joint Chair of the NADE International Panel. During the conference there were a number of meetings with the NADE Executive Council where we both reviewed our existing collaborative arrangements as well as exploring how these could be further deepened and developed. Areas identified for future collaboration include: contributions to publications, study visits, electronic networking, knowledge and practice exchange. All three agreed this was a really productive visit and contributes to building the international networking capacity of FACE.
